Citroën breaks new ground with its C4 Cactus

Today’s competitive motoring industry pushes manufacturers to constantly innovate to stay ahead of the pack, and there have been few more striking developments than the Citroën C4 Cactus. The French manufacturer invested plenty in the model, and first impressions are that the time and money was well worth it.

The C4 Cactus is based on the upmarket C4 hatchback, enhancing its functionality and robustness in a number of ways. The most notable addition is Airbump, a revolutionary feature that protects the body using Thermoplastic Polyurethane panels filled with tiny air capsules. These capsules absorb impact and safeguard against scratches and bumps, retaining the car’s striking exterior design. Joining Airbump on the outside are practical roof rails, while a rear spoiler and futuristic alloy wheel designs complete the car’s aesthetic appeal.

It can be argued the C4 Cactus is a result of the growing trend for cars with versatility, as the rapid emergence of the crossover SUV segment demonstrates. This particular model will likely turn the heads of those who were considering the ŠKODA Yeti, another flexible compact car that’s been given a rugged makeover.

The C4 Cactus arguably boasts a more distinctive design when compared to the Yeti, and also beats it for economical performance. The ŠKODA emits 119g/km of CO2 to the Citroën’s 82g/km, and its peak fuel economy of 61.4mpg doesn’t come close to the Cactus’ 91.1mpg. PureTech petrol and BlueHDi diesel engines with start/stop system enable such impressive figures.

With such clear attention paid to the exterior and under the bonnet, it will come as no surprise that no compromise is found inside. The cabin has been crafted intelligently to be clean and uncluttered, combining elegant materials that can be specified to your tastes. The sofa-style seats are surrounded by space, and the clever Top Box incorporates a handy storage area within the dashboard. It is here you’ll also find the seven-inch Touch Drive interface which leads the various infotainment functions.

The C4 Cactus is on sale in the UK now, and the first deliveries set to arrive in October are expected to make a big impression when they hit the road. For your own example, enquire with Duff Morgan in Norwich or Kings Lynn today.
